General Information
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Malatya Turgut Özal University was established in 2023 under the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. The undergraduate program began admitting students in the same year.
The aim of the Turkish Language and Literature program is to educate teachers, experts, and scholars who possess the knowledge and skills to understand, interpret, and conduct scholarly research on Turkish language and literature texts from their original sources, within philological and literary contexts, from the earliest periods to the present day—individuals who can meet the needs of the country in this field.
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature primarily trains academics, teachers, and researchers. In addition, graduates of the program have the opportunity to work in various sectors, particularly in media and broadcasting, including print and television, as well as in fields such as archiving and librarianship.
The program aims to raise qualified individuals who have acquired the cultural heritage of Turkish language and literature, can establish interdisciplinary connections, contribute to the universal body of knowledge in their field, and carry out innovative and community-oriented projects in line with these goals.
The department aspires to become a leading academic unit in its field through its scientific research and the highly qualified and versatile individuals it educates. In this context, our educational framework is built around researching and analyzing the written and oral works produced in Turkish language and literature from past to present, sharing the findings with society, playing an active and decisive role in relations with other cultures, and training competent scholars and educators in the field of Turkish culture.
Our educational philosophy is to preserve and enhance the academic strength and competency of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, and to transfer the existing accumulation of knowledge in the field of Turkology in the most effective way possible.
